How Long Does It Take To Get Abs?

So just how long does it take to get abs? Or if you want it put in the language that everyone understands, how long does it take to get a six-pack?

Well, this is, of course depends on a number of factors that you need to take into consideration. Things such as time, your age, your body type, your commitment and how much you really want them!

It could be that you've just come back from your summer holidays and, after looking at all those other finely-honed bodies on the beach; you've decided that you're going to get yourself a six-pack too.

A set of abs that you won't mind showing off on the beach, or anywhere else for that matter! Never mind that there were just as many people on the beach that looked as bad, if not worse, than you did. You've decided that you are going to have a six-pack and that's it!

Okay, so let's take a look at the actual reality of how long it will take to get abs.

Time

Let's face it, whatever your age; this isn't going to happen overnight. Or even over a month! It's going to be a long hard slog to get that six-pack that will have everyone looking at you with admiration and possibly envy. You are probably looking at a minimum of three months of sticking to a strict dietary and Ab Exercise regime before you see a noticeable difference. And this is if you are in quite reasonable shape to begin with!

It could be that you are quite slim. Or maybe you have a layer, or a few layers, of fat hiding your six-pack from the world at the moment.

Now, I'm not actually qualified to say who is going to have an easier time getting a set of six-pack abs. In fact it seems to me that both types will have their work cut out, albeit in different ways.

A person who is on the fat side will really need to take their food and drink intake seriously. This probably means cutting down on a lot of the things you love! On the other hand, a slim person may need to take some sort of dietary supplement to build up their body mass.

Anyway, whatever your situation, as we've already said, be prepared for how long it will take to get six-pack abs.

Your Age

Time creeps up on us all. Unfortunately, that's a fact of life and the older we get, the harder it gets for our bodies to do what we want them to do. As we get older our muscles deteriorate and become weaker. This obviously means that building muscle mass is much harder and you may not get the results you were hoping for. This is just as true for your abs as for any other muscles.

Even if you were in the peak of physical shape when you were younger, you won't be able to maintain that into old age. It will be easier for you than for someone who didn't look after their body but don't expect the same results in your fifties that you had in your twenties!

This doesn't mean that you still can't have a set of abs. Just that it will take you even longer to get them and they won't look the same as when you were in your prime. So, again, be prepared to put the work in and work with what you have.

Your Body Type

There are basically three types of human body type. The endomorph; which has a higher fat accumulation, the ectomorph; which has very little fat or muscle build and the mesomorph; which is a naturally muscular or athletic build.

Now, if you are of the last type then you are very lucky as far as building muscle goes. The chances are that you will already have six-pack abs and, if not, then you will have little trouble developing them. It will definitely take you less time than the other two body types.

If you are of the other two types, then you will definitely have to put more time and effort in. We have already touched on this, previously. It is another fact of life that means that if you are of these two body types, then you will have to put that much more work in to get your abs.

Commitment

So, now we come to commitment. To commit yourself to however long it will take to get six-pack abs, you must ask yourself why you are doing it. To make sure that it is for the right reasons.Are you doing it to look good? To feel better about yourself! To feel healthier! Or is it envy or peer pressure?

The last two reasons are not necessarily good reasons but are also valid in their own way and understandable.

Whatever the reason or reasons, you must recognize them for it is this that will give you the commitment to carry it through to the end. It is probably going to be a long hard struggle and if you do not have the commitment, then you are not going to make it.

So, take some time to think about this and all the hard work and exercise that you will have to put in and how long it is going to take to get your six-pack abs.

If you start and you are not committed, when you give up, you will have to face the bitter disappointment of not achieving your goal.

How Much Do You Really Want a Six-Pack?

This question is very much tied in with commitment. How much do you really want these abs?Well, only you can answer that but if you have seriously taken everything into consideration, then I guess you will have made your decision.

If you have gone into the reasons and you have a rough idea how long it will take to get a six-pack then go for it!

You know that there is no short cut, no magic diet or exercise that will give you a six-pack immediately so now is the time to get started.

How Do I Get Abs?

Okay, so now we come to the hard part!You've made your decision, you're committed and you want that six-pack.There is no real definite answer to the original question, how long does it take to get abs? We've seen all the different factors that need to be taken into consideration. It obviously varies from person to person and it everyone will have a different timescale.

There are also a few other factors that can determine the time that it will take.For example, whether you will be going to a gym or having a personal trainer. Or whether you will be working out alone at home or whether you will be with a group of friends.

Each of these has their own advantages and it is entirely a matter of personal preference. You may not like the gym atmosphere and find it easier at home alone. Or you may like being with friends so that you can encourage each other.

Whatever you decide, it is definitely a good idea to take advice on what form of exercise and diet you should be following. This is especially true if you have not exercised for a long time. If you are particularly unfit or if you suffer from any ailments, you should also take advice from your doctor before starting any exercise regime.

There are many different stomach exercises that you can use to work on your six-pack abs. These include sit-ups, stomach crunches, leg lifts and trunk twists. Again, it is best to take advice so that you know that you are doing the exercises properly.

Again the question, how long does it take to get abs?

Just to back up my article, it's interesting to note what the American Council on Exercise says. That is that it can take anything from three to twenty months to get a six-pack stomach, depending on how much weight you need to lose or gain and what exercise regime you follow.

As I said at the start, you are not going to see any results at least for a few months. So be prepared, people!I think that the thing to do is actually get out there and start doing something about it rather than wonder how long it will take. You can sit about pondering that question for ever but if you make a start, then at least you are on your way to getting that six-pack. You may actually find that, once you start your regime, it will take less time than you think it will!
